We need to identify our talents and accumulate expertise.

1, Characteristics of Expertise:

  • Expertise lies in the field that one naturally enjoys and excels in.
  • Some individuals are born with a natural inclination for reading and writing, making it effortless for them to write articles for platforms like WeChat or microblogs.
  • Many things require innate talent. For example, trying to write content for Twitter just because it's popular may not yield good results if one lacks aptitude and interest.
  • Expertise refers to knowledge that cannot be acquired through training.
  • If society can train you in something, it can also train others to replace you.
  • Many people mistakenly believe that expertise can be acquired through training, but it is actually quite challenging.
  • For instance, some find financial articles dull to read, while others find them captivating. This experiential aspect cannot be obtained through training.
  • Therefore, it is easy to determine whether something is your expertise or merely an experience you mistakenly believe to be expertise.

2, Strengthening Expertise:

  • Continuing with the topic of writing, strengthening your writing skills involves reading and writing.
  • For you, reading is a hobby that brings no pain or difficulty.
  • However, for most people, reading a book feels like being imprisoned, and they get drowsy after flipping through a few pages. How can they compare to you?
  • When it comes to your area of expertise where you excel and others struggle, you have the upper hand.

3, Transmission of Expertise:

  • The transmission of expertise often occurs through mentorship, with a master guiding an apprentice.
  • The current education system is often misunderstood, as it primarily aims to select outstanding individuals rather than teach one how to become outstanding.
  • Parents are often the first teachers, and if they are exceptional, the child rarely encounters mediocrity.
  • If parents cannot guide you, having a mentor can help you avoid many detours.

4, Technical or Creative Nature of Expertise:

  • Expertise often involves high levels of technicality or creativity. 🛠
  • It cannot be outsourced or automated.
  • This relates to its irreplaceability.
  • Generally, if a task can be replaced by a machine, it is not considered expertise.
  • Examples include aesthetic judgment, inspiration, business acumen, interpersonal skills, etc.

In summary, it is important to find your own expertise and continuously strengthen it. If you don't enjoy what you do, it is likely that you haven't found your true expertise yet. Remember that if you engage in something that is not your expertise, you may end up exerting ten times the effort for only 1/10 of the results.
